Ibn al-Jawzī’s Golden Advice on Money and Defeating the Devil

Ramadan is a time when Shaytan is locked up and in chains.

Alhamdulillah. It is a time we can worship, safe from the waswasaa of Shaytan.

This is why this is the best time to send a powerful reminder which I hope will empower you and help you to think differently.

One of the shaytans’ biggest weapons is money and wealth.

Allah says in the Quran, in Surah Baqarah:

“Satan threatens you with poverty and orders you to commit indecency; whereas Allah promises you forgiveness from Him and Bounty. Allah is Self-Sufficient, All-Knowing. [2:268]

Shaytan is relentless in feeding this fear of poverty. And the way the world has become is reflective of what he is pushing — the constant capitalist desire to consume, to buy more, to earn more and to live a life of luxury.

You get people on both ends of the spectrum. Either those fully in the rat race, consumed by the pursuit of more. And then on the other hand, you get those who do the opposite, who do not work and rely on handouts.

But I want to share some important advice from Ibn al-Jawzī (rh) who said:
