The irate hate for Tate needs to dissipate — now just wait
So, what are my thoughts on the whole Andrew Tate conversion story?
I’m surprised that the reaction isn’t more welcoming across the board; many people, even people that I know and respect highly are doubting the sincerity of the act. I’m not sure how much content they’ve actually watched of him, other than the few viral short clips going around.
Sometimes some wisdom and nuance is needed.
A few months ago, when he was on the rise — I thought the same. Who the hell is this guy coming out with these outrageous things. I wrote him off as just another YouTube attention seeker and not worth my time. Having only listened to a few short clips, I thought he was a meme, a flavour of the month, saying controversial things for controversy’s sake as that is what grabs attention in this polarising, divisive age. But as he got more popular and mainstream, I decided to listen to a couple of his long-form videos (on 2x speed, of course!), to understand a bit more about what he is really espousing.
If you take aside all of the brash, cocksure bravado and listen to the crux of the message alone, honestly — what came to mind for me first was the proverb ‘is the enemy of my enemy, actually my friend?’ I was surprised by what I heard. Meaning that he was positing an articulate, persuasive…
