The Loan of a Lifetime

Imagine someone lent you a top-of-the-range Bugatti (or a state-of-the-art mansion, for non-car lovers) and said, “this is mine, but you can borrow it for as long as you need. But one day, whenever you’re finished with it — if it’s still in good condition, I’ll buy it back off you for ten times what it’s worth.

But if it’s not in good condition, you’ll owe me until you’ve paid back the debt.”

Would you take that deal?

Surely most of us would?

That’s a bloody good deal — unlimited lifetime usage of something extremely valuable only with the responsibility to take care of it (which you probably would do anyway, right?)

I actually found this to be one of the best analogies for understanding our lives here on Earth.

God has loaned you your life — it is just a loan and the beauty of it is that it is not yours but while you have it you can do with it what you want. Free will and all that. God has given you this incredible loan of your very valuable life and then is giving you the chance to sell this thing back to Him at the end.

If it is a good soul that lived a good, purposeful life, God will buy it back for the high price of an entry ticket to heaven. Not bad, eh?

But if you’ve damaged this precious soul he lent you, you will need to repay him for eternity.

So, what say you?

Are you keeping your loan in good condition?
